"The minute I heard my first love story,
I started looking for you, not knowing
how weird it was."

“जिस पल मैंने अपनी पहली प्रेम कहानी सुनी थी, मैंने तुम्हें खोजना शुरू कर दिया था। बिना ये सोचे और समझे कि ये कितना अजीब है।”

For ages, we have been forging, tending, and manifesting stories into our lives. We have been exchanging and sharing them, through engravings on earth, lullabies of nature, or through our sorrows, promises, and dreams expressed in words. Stories shape our lives and how we live.

Recollecting the long and lush stream of tales, the Tales of Love—Passionate Love, love that knows no bounds, love that molds fire and steel; perishes kingdoms, and bends gods—has been told again and again across different cultures and borders. Whether in the divine union of Shiv Parvati and Radha Krishna, the timeless passion of Romeo and Juliet, the folkloric traditions of Mirza-Sahiba, or the passionate saga of Laila Majnu and Sohni-Mahiwal, love stories share profound ideas that transcend generations. Ideas that bind us; tales of love make us feel one. Love is the very core of our being, imbued in life’s every breath. Love liberates our souls, reaffirms our humanity, and illuminates the limitless potential of the human spirit.

Story

At the heart of the story is Rumi Sharma (22), a young playwright and final-year mechanical engineering student grappling with the profound loss of his father. His relationship with his mother is strained, adding to his emotional longing, and widening the void he has carried in his heart since childhood. Rumi's life is held by two pillars: Vikas, his childhood friend, a jovial and jaunty boy of the mountains, and Saanjh, his elder sister whose nurturing and caring presence serves as both an emotional anchor and a unifying force of the family.

During the college fresher event, Rumi experiences a magical moment, a moment that feels beyond himself and alters the course of his life. Across the crowded auditorium, his eyes catch a glimpse of Naziya Hassan, a figure shrouded in mystery and allure. Rumi follows and finds what he was unconsciously seeking.

Naziya Hassan (19) is a CS/IT engineering fresher, a solitary figure. Her past is veiled in tragedy, which changed her forever. She was once filled with stories, liveliness, and poetry. Adil, her younger brother, is the only radiance she has in her world. Despite the shadows that linger around her, Rumi's encounter with Naaz stirs a soulful emotion within him, an emotion so deep that it defies articulation. In each other's presence, they dream and together they paint a world of boundless possibilities. Long walks, sunsets. They start spending time together, eventually healing each other, and slowly their past becomes a memory.
But, an unexpected turn in life tears them apart, setting them on a long voyage of pain and detachment. Their world remains unfinished.

The narrative shifts to Delhi, a bustling metropolis pulsating with power, fury, and unyielding concrete. As Rumi grapples with a multitude of emotions, he finds himself torn between two worlds: one where Naaz is, and the other where Rumi struggles in solitude.

In a new city, Rumi’s only hope and connection to reality is theatre, soon becoming a prominent playwright of Delhi. Rumi's metamorphosis leaves Vikas, Saanjh, and those around him in a perpetual state of unease and frustration. Their brother, the light of their life, is now a lost soul.

Rumi’s heart is eager to meet Naaz. The agony of separation from his lover devours Rumi's essence, leaving a void behind. Forced to flee Shimla by one incident, destiny brings him back. Upon his return to Shimla, Rumi confronts himself with reality, and a flood of memories and stories rushes back. Rumi glimpses a ray of hope; he knows that to reunite with Naaz, he must transcend barriers and mend past wounds.
Will they be able to meet in this world? Or does something await them in the greater beyond?

"Ruminaaz," the film, is a tale that delves into the depths of hope, resilience, love, and grief — the very essence of our humanity. The film will eventually leave the audience with silence to ponder upon, a sense of completeness, and satisfaction.

“The one I Love, is everywhere”

Rumi's World

In the heart of mountains: Shimla, lives Rumi Sharma, a warm-hearted soul. From a tender age, marked by a tragic childhood memory, he developed a deep longing and inherited a passion for theatre from his late father.

Rumi is surrounded by a close circle of friends and family. His relationship with his mother is strained, but his loving sister, Saanjh, keeps the family united. Vikas, his childhood friend, is like a brother, sharing the journey from adolescence to adulthood. As a final-year engineering student, Rumi balances college life, theatre practice, and heartfelt and lively moments with Vikas and friends at Pahadi Café. When in need of solace, he retreats to a mountain hilltop to watch the sunset and silences the world momentarily.

Naaziya's World

Naziya Hassan was a dream in motion, a radiant ember lighting up everything she touched. She loved poetry and stories. Born and raised in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, to a loving family, a tragic incident uprooted them from their home and placed them in a distant town: Shimla.

The tragedy snatched her dream, poetry, and the essence of stories within. She became solitary and lived a monotonous life. Her pursuit of education and CS/IT engineering as a 1st-year student serves a glimpse of purpose and meaning. Naziya’s family, once her anchor, feels distant and changed, except for her younger brother Adil, who remains her only light in the desolation.
